Artist Talk: Simone Leigh

Leigh’s work synthesizes African pottery techniques, the modernist art-making strategies that took so much from them, and the pan-African politics that critique that lineage. Her practice also calls to performance, feminism, “primitivism”, modernist abstraction & post-minimalist sculpture.  She has shown at venues including Sculpture Center in Queens, Momenta Art Gallery in Brooklyn, The Bronx Museum & Lisa Cooley Gallery.
