news, truths, love, disaster, and unfinished attempts at perfection
April 25, 2019 @ 9:00 am - May 6, 2019 @ 10:00 pm
New Brunswick, NJ – The Mary H. Dana Women Artists Series, a program of the Center for Women in the Arts and Humanities (CWAH) in partnership with Rutgers University Libraries (RUL), and Douglass Residential College’s (DRC) Global Village are pleased to announce the 2019 Women and Creativity House exhibition titled, News, Truths, Love, Disaster, and Unfinished Attempts at Perfection.
The Global Village is a Living-Learning Community that seeks to develop language skills, intercultural appreciation, global awareness, and a sense of community among students at DRC. In this unique residential environment, students live together in themed houses that combine curricular and co-curricular activities designed to enhance each student’s overall college experience.
The focus of the Women and Creativity House is to de-mystify the creative process. In this community, topics of gender, sexuality, identity, perception, and visual communication of women in the arts are explored and discussed. This exhibition highlights the works produced by the student artists during the academic year and is organized and co-curated by Eva Mantell (Global Village Instructor) and Angelica Calderon (CWAH Intern, Institute for Women’s Leadership Scholar).
The group exhibition will be on view in the Mary H. Dana Women Artists Series Galleries in the Douglass Library, Rutgers University (8 Chapel Drive, New Brunswick, NJ 08901) from April 25 – May 6, 2019. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9am – 10pm, and are subject to university libraries operating schedule. There will be a reception in honor of the Women and Creativity House artists from 4:15 – 5:15pm on Saturday, April 27, 2019 in the Mabel Smith Douglass Room at Douglass Library.
The exhibition and event are free and open to public. Additional information can be found at cwah.rutgers.edu. To accompany the exhibition, CWAH will publish an online catalog in the spring of 2019.
This exhibition and reception are sponsored by the Center for Women in the Arts and Humanities, Douglass Residential College, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
