Matriarchal Action + Art – CAA Affiliated Society Conference Session
February 17, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Session Abstract:
This conversation between renowned artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith and Brooklyn based artist Maria Hupfield moderated by Lowery Stokes Sims will draw upon their individual arts practices to address art as a strategy to locate freedom and responsibility from within colonial nation states. Hupfield is Anishinaabe from Wasauksing First Nation, Ontario Canada, and Quick-to-See Smith an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Indian Nation, Montana. This dialogue will also serve as an introduction to The Feminist Art Project TFAP@CAA day of panels, performances and roundtable discussions on Saturday, February 18, entitled Crossroads: Art + Native Feminism that will be held at the Museum of Art and Design (MAD) and chaired by Hupfield and Quick-to-See Smith.
