Marking Time: Prison Arts and Activism Conference

The Institute for Research on Women will hold a conference and multi-site exhibition in New Brunswick, NJ entitled Marking Time: Prison Arts and Activism. The three day conference will bring together scholars, writers, artists, and activists to explore the cultural aspects of imprisonment through a focus on art produced by prisoners and in response to mass incarceration. Reginald Dwayne Betts, poet and author of A Question of Freedom: A Memoir of Learning, Survival, and Coming of Age in Prison, will give the keynote address. The exhibitions will be held throughout the month of October at Alfa Art Gallery, Rutgers Art Library, Heldrich Hotel, New Brunswick Public Library, and the Zimmerli Art Museum.
