Lydia Craig: Intimate Observatons
September 1, 2010 - September 18, 2010
Mason Gross School of the Arts Galleries Welcome Back Show: Project Space: Lydia Craig: Intimate Observations
Curated by Ferris Olin, Director of the Institute for Women in Arts at Rutgers. After completing a Masters in environmental science, Craig returned to school to pursue her passion – art. Craig graduated in 1998 with a BFA in visual arts from Mason Gross School of the Arts. Intimate Observations not only shows us Craig’s interest in mythical creatures, but also reflects the scientist in her as she shares with us a keen and personal look at nature, animals, and people. Craig died of a brain tumor in 2002 at age 40, leaving behind a three-year old son, Ben, and her husband John LaMacchia, who established an endowed memorial scholarship for visual arts students in Craig’s name. The first Craig Scholarship recipient will be announced at this year’s Welcome Back Opening Reception.
