*Slam only open to currently enrolled Rutgers students and poetry must be original and presented live (no pre-recorded poems).
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: April 7th 11:59 pm EXTENDED UNTIL APRIL 14th!
This event will take place on April 16th at 5pm EST on Zoom. The event is anticipated to be 2-2.5 hours long. The poetry slam will consist of two rounds. The highest scoring poets from the first round will advance to round two, and the top three highest-scoring poets in round two will receive $100, $50, and $25 gift cards respectively.
Poem Guidelines:
1. Poems may be no more than three minutes long.
2. No language that is racist, sexist, ableist, classist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, etc.
3. Poems must fit in with the idea of “Healing is Justice”. However, your interpretation of how to apply this concept may be quite broad: You may perform a poem about the idea of healing justice itself, a poem about something you, your community, society, etc needs healing from, a poem that, through its creation, has been an important tool for your own healing, a poem that has helped you take the power and process of your healing from any form of singular, ongoing, or generational trauma into your own hands and/or the hands of your community, or whatever else you feel applies.
4. Since this poetry slam consists of two rounds, if you are selected to perform you will need to have two poems fully prepared by the time of the event.
