CWAH Annual Dance and Philosophy Lecture

Lecture by Dr. Ann Cooper Albright titled, “Falling into Memory ” with a reception and book signing to follow.
A dancer and a scholar, Ann Cooper Albright Ph.D. is Professor and Chair of the Department of Dance at Oberlin College. Originally an undergraduate philosophy major at Bryn Mawr College, she received her MFA in dance from Temple University and a Ph.D in Performance Studies from New York University. Combining her interests in dancing and cultural theory, including phenomenology, gender, sexuality and feminist studies, Dr. Cooper Albright teaches a variety of courses that seek to engage students in both practices and theories of the body. She is the author of many publications, and her new book, “How to Land: Finding Ground in an Unstable World”, focuses on contemporary American embodiment post-9/11, and will be released by Oxford University Press in November 2018.

The CWAH Annual Dance and Philosophy Lecture seeks to support continued expansion of dance as both an art practice and an embodied form of creative research that is also embedded in the humanities. This lecture serves students in Rutgers’ MFA Dance degree’s fall semester course, Dance Philosophy and Aesthetics and Creative Process: Improvisation Strategies. The lecture is open to the general public and all students and faculty who wish to engage more fully with dance as an expanded field.
