Rejoinder Call for Submissions — Trauma:
In 2019, the Center for Disease Control identified psychological trauma as one of the largest public health issues facing the global community. Since then, the lived experience of pandemic, and the concurrent and highly publicized incidences of police brutality, racial injustice, environmental disaster, discriminatory legislation, political insurgency and state-sponsored violence have complicated and exacerbated the generational trauma experienced by historically marginalized communities. To ignore or turn away from such experiences is to silence discourse, to refuse to learn or grow, and to risk repeating the same mistakes and harms in the “new normal” as in the “beforetimes,” with the potential for further harm and trauma implied by such action.

This issue of Rejoinder will address the experience and expression of trauma, with an emphasis on identity, intersectional oppression, and restorative justice. Such work can reflect on historic examples, contemporary experiences, or look toward the future. Submissions (including essays, commentary, criticism, fiction, poetry, and artwork) should address this theme from feminist, queer, social and racial justice-inspired perspectives. We particularly welcome contributions at the intersection of scholarship and activism. For manuscript preparation details, please see our website at: or Rejoinder is published by the Institute for Research on Women at Rutgers University in partnership with The Feminist Art Project, a program of the Rutgers Center for Women in the Arts and Humanities.

This special issue of Rejoinder will be edited by Dr. Bridget Keown (University of Pittsburgh). Please send completed written work (2,000-2,500 words max), jpegs of artwork, and short bios to with “Rejoinder Submission” in the subject line by December 15, 2021.
