Ask and I Will Tell

Permanent installation of the work by: K8 Hardy, Cara Phillips, Elle Perez, Marina Zamalin, Tiana Markova-Gold, Sonia Louise Davis, Brie Ruais, Ruth Mora, Kerry Kehoe,Amy Pryor, Leeza Meksin, and Emily Holzknecht. curated by Yulia Tikhonova, in collaboration with Art Connects New York. Opening reception Thursday, May 17th from 4pm-6pm Amethyst Women’s Project, 1907 Mermaid Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11224 D,F,N,Q to Stillwell Ave. Ask and I Will Tell explores how the practice of collectivity empowers women in both art and non-art fields. This collection of work by twelve female artists is largely photography-based and has an interactive component in the form of conversations, art classes, performance workshops, and interviews. Ask and I Will Tell serves as a catalyze for new conversations among Amethyst Women’s Project’s clients and participating artists, providing inspiration for both. ABOUT Amethyst Women’s Project addresses the complex social, emotional, psychological, health, housing, education, and work place-related issues affecting women and families living with or impacted by HIV/AIDS, drug dependency and domestic violence in Brooklyn. Art Connects New York permanently places artwork created by New York City-based artists in public areas of social service agencies in all the city’s five boroughs. This program is supported, in part, by public Funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in Partnership with the City Council. Additional funding is made possible in part with public funds from the Fund for Creative Communities, supported by New York State Council on the Arts and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Yulia Tikhonova is a Moscow-born, Brooklyn-based curator and a founder of Brooklyn House of Kulture. BHK is a grass-roots curatorial platform created to allow artists to work within communities to inspire and improve people.
