Conversation with Kathleen Gilje and Beth S. Gersh-Nesic

Art W advocates for notable women artists by bringing collectors adn curators together with artists through the Art W Salon Series.   Art W events are co-sponsored by the Rutgers University Institute for Women and Art and the Feminist Art Project, dedicated along with Art W to recognition of the contributions of women to the visual arts.

Kathleen Gilje trained as a conservator at the Capodimonte Museum, Naples, Italy.  She maes replicas of historical paintings with alterations that shed new light for viewing them in today’s context.  She lives in New York and shows with Francis Naumann Gallery and Texas Gallery, Houston, TX.

Beth S. Gersh-Nesic, director, NY Arts Exchane, has a PhD in art history from the CUNY Graduate Center, is currently teaching French-to-English translation at Manhattanville College, and is an art critic for About.com: Art History.  Her research on Picasso friend, Andre Salmon, is available in print and at www.andresalmon.org.  In 2009, she gave a paper on Kathleen Gilje’s portraits of arts professionals.
