Livingston Campus Center - 84 Joyce Kilmer Avenue, Piscataway, NJ 08854

This panel of artists and scholars, seminal voices in the field of gaming, will present their research and creative practice in relation to gender and video games. Panelists will address forces of exclusion and marginalization including sexually themed violence in games and gender-based harassment in and outside of game worlds. Tactical responses to these challenges, including deconstructing, hijacking and re-purposing game objects, will be discussed and debated. Considering the context of the the Extended Play conference and specifically this year's iteration, "the sequel," related themes to be considered also include gendered performativity or how Judith Butler's "stylized repetition of acts" play out in game worlds and non-binary or transgressive representations of gender and identity in games. The panelists will address various possibilities for diverse design, content and play experiences which broaden the field of players and makers.
